Tea House, Iran and Japan Cultural Week
Mentor: Professor Riichi Miyak (Headmaster of Fuji Women’s University)
During the Iran and Japan Cultural Week, a design workshop took place at Tehran University, fostering cultural exchange. Japan’s architectural prowess, rooted in its engagement with modern architectural values, has long served as a source of inspiration for Iranian architecture.
This collaborative endeavor explores the intersection of Iranian and Japanese art alongside tea culture, focusing on two key aspects:
1. Drawing parallels between traditional Iranian miniature paintings and their counterparts in traditional Japanese art.
2. Uncovering the similarities in the lines found in these artworks with the topography of Japanese tea farms.
In the sketch models, the integration of curved lines within a confined rectangular shape, reminiscent of a Zen garden, was a deliberate choice. However, as the project evolved, the rectangular constraint was discarded, revealing the fluidity of form inspired by the typologies found in Japanese tea farms.
